How arrogant of Roy J. Greesey to tell Betty Lerille, a woman dying of asbestos cancer, that she is wrong to oppose the federal asbestos bailout bill, which the Republicans cruelly named a "Fair Act."

Asbestos victims are perfectly capable of speaking for themselves in this debate - and they have. Every single major asbestos victims' organization opposed the federal asbestos bailout bill.

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization even issued a press release applauding the defeat of the bill.

The week before the vote, asbestos victims like Betty Lerille delivered 150,000 petition signatures from them and their family members opposing the bill. They objected to an asbestos fund that would leave many victims with nothing, and others facing long delays and new bureaucratic hurdles.
The process of developing this bill was flawed from the start - the bill was written by the big asbestos companies for the big asbestos companies. Victims were not even considered a stakeholder or invited to participate in negotiations.

And every independent analysis of the proposed asbestos fund determined it was destined for bankruptcy, leaving victims and taxpayers holding the bag.

Asbestos victims have already been poisoned by companies that knew the dangers of asbestos for decades but covered it up - they don't deserve to be victimized again by this corporate bailout.
